Just 30 minutes from downtown Cartagena lies a captivating ecological gem, the Jardín Botánico de Cartagena “Guillermo Piñeres.” This sanctuary showcases 300+ plant species from Colombia’s tropical dry forest and global tropical regions. Its virgin native forest is a vital resource for tropical dry forest restoration.
Stroll along 2 km of trails, traversing exclusive collections like Orchid Garden, Palmetum, Jacquin’s Garden, and more. A unique natural spring flows perennially, nourishing plants, fungi, and animals throughout the forest. Immerse yourself in the wonder of flowers, birds, monkeys, and butterflies. Towering ancient trees, lively lianas, and diverse fungi await. Experience the vibrant fauna, flora, and fungi of the Colombian Caribbean in this extraordinary botanical garden.
The Guillermo Piñeres Botanical Garden is renowned as the most important plant collection of the Colombian Caribbean Region. It’s conservation projects have a reach from the Urabá Subregion to La Guajira Desert. For almost 50 years the Garden has been the leading organization executing conservation and research efforts for the seasonally dry tropical forest in Colombian Caribbean Region, the country’s most battered ecosystem by human intervention.
This organization has also harvested valuable knowledge regarding city sustainable urban landscaping, providing responsibly sourced botanical material for reintroduction and reforestation practices. As well as developing new protocols for the propagation, germination, and care of native species.”
